Biographical
Leonard J. Frankel is a principal in the firm of Frankel, Rubin, Klein, Siegel, Payne & Pudlowski, P.C. in Clayton. A former trial lawyer, he now limits his practice to mediation, arbitration, service as a special master and parent coordinator. He believes that a process that allows parties to sit across the table from each other, in an informal, neutral, confidential and cost-effective setting, to solve problems together provides a great service to the public and legal profession. Following graduation from Washington University School of Law in 1965 he served in the U.S. Navy, JAGC, on active duty from 1965 -1968, eventually reaching the rank of Commander in the Naval Reserve. He taught mediation theory and practice at Washington University Law School as an adjunct professor for more than 10 years. He has served on the ADR Advisory Committee for the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Missouri from 1999 - 2021.
Frankel’s mediation experience includes employment law, personal injury, contracts, statutory remedies and family law. He co-authored “Why Cases Settle, Why Cases Don’t settle,” and authored “Presuit Mediation-A Missed Opportunity,” both of which were published in the St. Louis Bar Journal. He is a member of the Association of Attorney Mediators and the Association of Missouri Mediators. He has been named to the Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers list since 2005. Frankel has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 2007, for his expertise in mediation and he was named by the publication as St. Louis Mediator of the Year in 2013, 2015 and 2021.
