Biographical
Rick Holtsclaw is the principal and owner of Holtsclaw Firm, LC. He concentrates his practice in civil cases involving serious bodily injury or death. Rick has expanded his practice to include serving as mediator and arbitrator in civil litigations.
Rick graduated from the University of Missouri in 1982 and from UMKC School of Law in 1985 and began his legal career as an Assistant Prosecutor for Jackson County Missouri in the Sexual Assault Unit. Upon leaving the prosecutor’s office after having tried approximately one hundred cases as an assistant prosecutor, Rick joined a Kansas City law firm which primarily handled Federal Employers’ Liability Act (FELA) cases.
In 1999, Rick formed the Holtsclaw Firm, dedicated to handling general civil practice matters which included, among others, catastrophic personal injuries, FELA, business disputes, trucking cases, products cases, and nursing home cases. While licensed in seven states, Rick has tried hundreds of jury trials in the Kansas City area and throughout the central United States.
In 2007, Rick completed a multi-day mediation course at the University of Missouri School of Law and was certified as a mediator. Rick has mediated and/or arbitrated various types of civil cases in both state and federal courts which include, among others, wrongful death, auto accidents, slip & falls, employment issues, business disputes, products liability, real estate disputes, trucking and bad faith insurance.
Rick has also frequently served as a neutral for the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri and has served as Special Master for Jackson County judges.
